PAR PROJEKTU

The main goal of the project “Green Towers” is to introduce the innovative clean technologies into urban and nature environment, and to contribute to effective management of protected areas and parks, tourism development and leisure opportunities for visitors and locals.

The project foresees development of green infrastructure – construction of the viewing towers and the green pavilion using smart renewable energy sources, including:

  • equipped viewing towers and improved surrounding territory in Rujiena, Cesis (Latvia) and Gdov (Russia);
  • green pavilion with improved surrounding territory in Kingisepp (Russia);
  • demo centers and “Green class” for students and visitors in Rujiena, Cesis, Gdov and Kingisepp.

This infrastructure will increase the quality of recreation facilities for locals and visitors, allowing for bird watching, small culture and eco events and games, sports and leisure.

GREEN TOWERS PARTNERI

The Latvia-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 supports joint efforts addressing cross-border development challenges in Latvia-Russia cross-border area. The Programme is co-financed by the European Union, the Republic of Latvia and the Russian Federation. The total Programme budget of 27 million euros is provided to support CBC projects implementation to make cross-border regions a better and more sustainable place to live, travel and develop business ideas.

The vision of the Programme is to reach the positive changes in entrepreneurship, environmental and cross-border mobility sectors.

In Latvia, Rujiena is known for its delicious and multi-flavoured ice cream. It is often called the ice-cream capital. They think of themselves more as an art-loving town. Several nationally and internationally known artists were born in Rujiena. It has several artist studios, an art school, and the town is decorated with many pieces of art.

They connect the future of their town with the art industry and they are committed to the development of the Art Centre, saving and restoring old wooden buildings, and creating and maintaining their environment and a green zone. The Green Town of the Arts — that is how they would like to call themselves.

Cēsis

Cesis is the third oldest town in Latvia. Cesis has many tourist attractions - the Medieval Castle, beautiful parks, the Old Town and world-class cultural events!

Cesis is a city with a special cultural sparkle. The city has enjoyed a rich and diverse cultural life for centuries. Several outstanding writers have grown up, studied and worked in Cesis such as Jānis Poruks, Rūdolfs Blaumanis, Edvards Treimanis-Zvārgulis, Eduards Veidenbaums. However, Cesis, in particular, has shown itself not only as a regional but also as an international cultural center in the 21st century.

Emblem - Kingisepp Kingiseppa

The district of Kingisepp is located in the southwest of the region of Leningrad. The geographical and historical location of the region is unique: it has a sea and land border with the countries near and far abroad, being one of the “windows to Europe”.

Almost 50% of the district’s border is the border zone with different countries, one-tenth of it is with Estonia, and the rest of it is access to the Baltic Sea, to the countries of Scandinavia and Europe.

Emblem - Gdov Gdova

The district of Gdov is located in the northern part of the Pskov region. The district adjoins the Pskov district in the south, the Plyussky and Strugo-Krasnensky districts in the east and the region of Leningrad in the north. From the west, for about 100 kilometers, the coast of the region is surrounded by the waters of Lake Peipus.

Lake Peipus is one of the largest in Europe, it plays a large role in the geopolitical development of not only the district but also the whole region.
